Turkmenistan to Increase Gas Supply to China by 25 bcm a Year
China and Turkmenistan are likely to sign an agreement where Turkmenistan will increase its planned supply of gas to China by 25 billion cubic metres bringing total supplies to 65 billion cubic metres a year.
This would be more than half of China’s total natural gas consumption last year.
The gas would be carried via the 8,700-kilometer natural gas pipeline which became functional in June
Turkmenistan hopes to capitalise on its huge hydrocarbon reserves for future prosperity.
The central Asian country exports gas to Iran and launched a pipeline to China. It has also plans to supply gas to a trans-Caspian pipeline that will run to Europe via Azerbaijan.
