Famagusta Gazette: Turkish warship continues vigil near Cyprus drilling platform

The General Staff of the Turkish Armed Forces has announced that the TCG Gelibolu vessel from the Turkish Naval Forces is closely observing the SAIPEM 10000 drilling platform, which is holding drilling activities for oil and natural gas in the Republic of Cyprus’ Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), in the area south of the island.

According to the statement, the Turkish warship has observed the platform from a distance of five nautical miles (nine kilometers), within the framework of its duties for the so-called Mediterranean Shield Operation.

The Turkish General Staff argued also that “harassing fire” has been opened against the Wireless Receiving Station of the Turkish Nautical Base Command in Alexandretta by an unknown person or persons and that the “fire” was responded immediately.
