Sanmar to build LNG tugboats for Pakistan
Turkey’s Sanmar Shipyards has signed a deal with Pakistan’s Port Qasim Authority to build and supply four LNG-powered tugboats, Sanmar said on April 2.
Under the $33.46mn deal, Sanmar will also build two pilot boats. The tugs are scheduled to be delivered in 12 months and the pilot boats in 10. They will be part of the Kocacay range of escort and harbour tugs, based on the Sanmar RAstar 3200SX design from Canada-based Robert Allan.

Three of the 32m x 13m x 5.6m LNG compatible tugs will have a 75 metric tons of bollard pull (BP) ahead and astern, while the fourth will have a BP of 85 mt, the company said.
The first two tugs in the series, called Thor of Scapa and Odin of Scapa, were delivered to the Orkney Islands Council in the UK last year. They are being used for ship-handling, towing, escort and emergency response duties, Sanmar said.
