Arkas, Sumitomo Ink Bunkering Deal
Turkey’s Arkas Bunkering and Japanese conglomerate Sumitomo Corporation October 16 signed an agreement to use LNG as bunker fuel in Turkish and nearby seas.
“With the agreement, Arkas Bunkering and Sumitomo Corporation are aiming to transform Turkey and the eastern Mediterranean into a prominent LNG bunker products supply centre. The partners have already started the preparations for the service to be provided to LNG-powered vessels as per IMO’s 2020 sulphur cap,” Arkas said October 17, adding that with this new collaboration, ship-to-ship LNG bunkering will now be offered for the first time from Turkey.
According to Arkas, Turkish and the nearby seas account for 2.8mn mt/yr of marine fuel demand. Arkas Bunkering is supplying one out of every three vessels in Turkey and Sumitomo is developing LNG bunkering services in Tokyo Bay.
