Turkish Imports Rise in 1Q

Turkey’s gas imports in 1Q2017 rose by 23% year on year to 16.196bn m³.

According to the national energy regulator, imports of both pipeline gas and LNG increased. The biggest volume hike came from Russia, which boosted deliveries by 16% to 5.33bn m³. The biggest percentage increase was for LNG imports, up by 45% in 1Q17 to reach 4.244bn m³.

Iran increased pipeline gas deliveries by 11% to 2.417bn m³, while Azerbaijan’s exports to Turkey declined by 7% to 1.597bn m³. Turkey’s piped gas import comes from these countries.

Algeria, Qatar, Nigeria and Norway export LNG to Turkey. Turkey’s modest gas exports (almost entirely to Greece) also decreased by 12.5mn m3 to about 120mn m³ in 1Q17.
