Turkey to Ask Iran to Cut Gas Price
Turkey will likely ask for a reduction in price of gas it imports from Iran, reports Today’s Zaman.
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan who is on a visit to Iran, will discuss the issue with Iranian officials.
Ankara currently pays $490 per 1,000 cubic meters of gas, much higher than $335 for gas purchased from Azerbaijan and $425 from Russia, reports Today’s Zaman.
High price of gas from Iran has long been an issue for Turkey so much so that the Turkish state-owned Petroleum Pipeline Corporation (BOTAŞ) applied to an international court of arbitration in 2012 to help reduce the price of Iranian gas.
According to the newspaper, Turkish representatives have offered to withdraw the lawsuit should Tehran offer a favourable price cut.
Turkey has tried to raise the gas price issue on previous occasions too but was not able to arrive at a solution, adds Today’s Zaman.
