TotalEnergies eyes hydrogen for transportation
US-based hydrogen vehicle company Hyzon Motors said July 12 it had signed a preliminary agreement with France's TotalEnergies to explore hydrogen supplies for the European transportation sector.
Through a memorandum of understanding (MoU), Hyzon and TotalEnergies aim to evaluate and develop refuelling centres for long-haul transportation in Europe. Both sides said part of the objective is to facilitate the trucking fleet’s energy transition.

An additional MoU covering the French market targets the production of 80 hydrogen-fuel powered trucks for the customers of TotalEnergies, which changed its name from Total recently to align with broad-based shifts in energy usage and development. Those vehicles could be secured by 2023.
“To achieve our climate ambition of net-zero emissions by 2050, together with society, hydrogen fuel cell-powered trucks must come to market,” said John Wilson, the vice president for the gas marketing and services division of the French company. “We are therefore excited about this partnership with Hyzon.”
The French major is an investor in Hyzon and is working to advance the car company’s manufacturing and engineering footprint in the US, Europe and China.
Elsewhere, Hyzon is working with Sydney-listed Pure Hydrogen to develop similar operations in the Australian market.
