Total Quits Oman Offshore Gas Exploration Block

France’s Total has decided to pull out of oil and gas exploration block offshore Oman due to unattractive commercial potential, Nasser Al Aufi, undersecretary at the Ministry of Oil and Gas said, media outlet Albawaba reported Monday.

The French major signed the deal in December 2013 for Block 41. The block has an area of 23,850 square kilometre and lies off northern coast of Oman.

Aufi also said that last year Hungarian oil group MOL had pulled out from Block 34, and Norwegian oil firm DNO from Block 31, Albawaba reported.

In Oman, Total produces oil primarily from Block 6 as well as Block 53 and has a 5.54 percent stake in Oman LNG as well as 2.04 percent stake in Qalhat LNG.
