Total Opens France's Biggest NGV Station
Total has opened France's largest natural gas vehicle (NGV) filling station, in the country's largest river port of Gennevilliers in Paris, the company announced on February 12.
The station, open 24/7 to individual motorists and businesses, will offer both compressed natural gas (CNG) and bio-CNG, supplied via the system of gas transmission operator GRTgaz. Customers can choose at the pump the ratio of bio-CNG to ordinary CNG they want to pay for, potentially purchasing 100% bio-CNG. Total will operate the facility for 10 years, having been awarded a concession following a tender.

"Our ambition is clear: to become a leader in NGV and bio-NGV distribution in Europe, with 450 Total-operated stations by 2025 including 110 in France," Total's president for marketing in France, Guillaume Larroque, commented. "This station is also a model for our future developments in Europe where Total is committed to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 or sooner, for the products used by our customers. Our objective of a 50% rate of biomethane incorporation will directly contribute to it."
Total significantly expanded its CNG filling station network through the 2017 purchase of Dutch fuel retailer PitPoint, giving it 100 extra stations. It also reached a deal to buy French biogas business Fonroche Biogaz last month, which will establish it as the biggest renewable gas producer in France.
