Total Looking at Polish Shales

France's Total is studying the possibility of searching for shale gas in Poland to gain access to a potential 3 trillion cubic metres in fuel resources in the eastern European country.

"It's a very interesting" area, says Martin Deffontaines, director of strategy and business development for exploration and production at Total. "There are reasons why companies are investing there."

Poland's reserves of shale and so-called tight gas may be as much as 3 trillion cubic metres.
