Tokyo Gas Gets First Gorgon Cargo

Tokyo Gas on September 12 said it has received its first LNG cargo of 70,000 tn from the Gorgon LNG project operated in Western Australia by Chevron.

The cargo was received at the Tokyo Gas Ohgishima LNG terminal in Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture. “With this delivery, Tokyo Gas now receives LNG from 12 projects in five countries,” the Japanese utility said. This is the fourth delivery of LNG from projects in which Tokyo Gas has secured participation rights, following on the Darwin LNG project, the Pluto LNG project and the Queensland Curtis LNG project.

Tokyo Gas signed a 25-year agreement with Chevron in September 2009 to import 1.1mn mt/yr of LNG.

Gorgon LNG project is a joint venture consisting of Chevron with a 47.3% stake, ExxonMobil and Shell with 25% each, Osaka Gas with 1.25%, Tokyo Gas with 1% and Jera, the joint venture of Tokyo Electric Power and Chubu Electric Power with 0.41%.

When fully operational, the project will have the capacity to produce 15.6mn mt/yr of LNG.
