Tokyo Gas Expands Hitachi Terminal

Tokyo Gas said April 3 it has started the construction of the second LNG tank at its Hitachi import terminal in Ibaraki Prefecture.

The second tank will have a capacity of 230,000 kilolitres (230,000 m3), so the same as its first tank, and will be operational by 2020. Construction of the Hitachi LNG terminal began in 2012 and it became operational in March 2016 with a single tank. The expansion of the terminal is expected to help cater to the natural gas demand in the region, Tokyo Gas said. Hitachi LNG terminal is company's first LNG terminal located outside Tokyo Bay area. In addition to Hitachi terminal, Tokyo Gas operates three other import terminals: Negishi LNG terminal, Ohgishima LNG terminal and Sodegaura LNG terminal.

Tokyo Gas also said that is proceeding with construction of gas pipeline Ibaraki Trunk Line with the aim of completing the project by 2020.
