Tokyo Gas Bags Bangladesh LNG Study Contract

Tokyo Gas’s wholly owned subsidiary Tokyo Gas Engineering Solutions, in partnership with Nippon Koei, has been awarded by Petrobangla a feasibility engineering study contract for a land based LNG terminal in Bangladesh, it said July 27.

The scope of the study would involve examining the feasibility of land-based LNG receiving base from the viewpoint of technology, environmental impact, economy, etc. for appropriate sites in the coastal area of Bangladesh. The duration of study would be from July 2017 to July 2018.

Demand for gas is rising at a fast clip and local production has not been able to match the demand growth. With global LNG prices ruling low, the government is looking to import the commodity to bridge the demand gap. It is working on building sufficient import infrastructure. The government has signed contracts for offshore as well as onshore import terminals. First gas imports are expected to commence next year.
