Tlou Energy Flows 395,000 cubic feet of gas per day from Botswana CBM Well

Australia listed and Africa focused coal bed methane explorer Tlou Energy has achieved peak flow rates of 395,000 cubic feet of gas per day during production testing of its Selemo Pilot in Botswana.

“Results to date suggest that the economic threshold for a potential development has been met when all key factors are taken into consideration,” the company said.

Tlou initially began to flare gas at Selemo in November 2014 with the rate building as the well bore environment was gradually brought into equilibrium with atmospheric conditions.

The company claims that Selemo Pilot is the first in Botswana to flow CBM gas at these rates.

Testing operations will continue at the four pilot locations, currently in various stages of gas and water production, to advance ongoing gas sales agreement negotiations and reserve certification.

“These activities will serve to underpin Tlou Energy’s planned field development objectives at the Lesedi CBM Project in Botswana,” Tlou said.

The Lesedi CBM project’s prospecting licenses extend for approximately 3,800km2 in the Karoo Kalahari Basin, southeastern Botswana. According to Tlou, numerous exploration and appraisal work programmes have resulted in an independently certified 2.3 TCF of 3C, and 152 BCF of 2C contingent gas resources.
