Titan LNG to try trucks for LNG bunkering at Zeebrugge

Titan LNG, a Dutch LNG supplier, said June 28 it would load trucks with LNG as an interim solution for meeting maritime demand for cleaner bunkering fuels.

The company’s chartered Green Zeebrugge is filling up trucks at a port terminal to meet bunkering demand in the ARA region, Zeebrugge and surrounding areas, part of a trial programme called Project Bridge.

“Project Bridge has been designed to accommodate LNG truck loadings as an interim solution during a four-week period in which the Rotterdam GATE terminal will undergo essential maintenance,” the company explained.

Belgian terminal operator Fluxys in May announced plans to build four bays for loading trucks at its Zeebrugge LNG terminal in order to meet growing demand. From around 1,450 loadings in 2017, the rate for this year is estimated to rise towards 6,000 loadings, close to the ceiling of 8,000.

Trailers mainly load LNG to supply the rising number of fuelling stations servicing LNG-powered trucks. But some are used for bunkering and others to deliver LNG to off-grid plants.

Titan said the Fluxys terminal could not meet expected demand alone, however.

“Bridge will process additional LNG coming to Zeebrugge starting from mid-July of this year and is expected to fulfil up to 300 orders during its deployment,” it said.
