Three CCUS projects receive Alberta funding support

Three carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) projects led by Alberta organisations are receiving C$3mn in funding from Emissions Reduction Alberta (ERA) through its international partnership with Accelerating CCS Technologies (ACT), ERA said April 26.

The funding, to three projects valued at more than C$11mn, will be sourced from Alberta’s industry-funded Technology Innovation and Emissions Reduction (TIER) fund, with additional funding coming from Norway and the US.

The projects, selected through the ACT consortium’s ACT4 call, include Carbon Management Canada’s project to develop low-cost, high resolution monitoring technology for CO2 storage facilities, Carbon Upcycling Technologies’ project to bind CO2 into a variety of feedstocks used in cement production, and Repsol Canada, which is investigating storing CO2 in depleted natural gas reservoirs.

Repsol Canada will receive C$1.3mn in funding, Carbon Management Canada C$1.1mn and Carbon Upcycling C$600,000.
