The Telegraph - Fracking: Whitehall cautious on shale gas revolution
The British Geological Survey study has reportedly found that the amount of shale gas beneath the country is far greater than previously thought, which could ease the pain felt by millions of families facing rising energy bills.
However, ministers are unwilling to “bet the farm” on shale gas as the answer to Britain’s energy needs, Government sources said yesterday.
The report, commissioned by the Department of Energy and Climate Change, is expected to show that the UK is sitting on potential reserves worth £1.5 trillion – even though only a tenth is thought to be capable of extraction.
