Technip Energies lands major petchem deal in UAE
France's Technip Energies has won a contract worth somewhere between €500mn and €1bn ($0.57-1.13bn) in revenue to build an ethane cracker in the UAE.
The engineering, procurement and construction contract was awarded by Abu Dhabi Polymers, a joint venture between Abu Dhabi's ADNOC and Austria's Borealis, majority-owned by OMV. It is for a new 1.5mn metric ton/year cracker unit at the Borouge 4 petrochemicals complex in Ruwais.

Technip Energies noted that its proprietary technology would be used at the cracker.
Ethane, which is separated from methane when natural gas is processed, is primarily used to produce ethylene. This in turn serves as a feedstock to make plastics and other petrochemical products.
