Technip Gets Gorgon Contract
French contractor TechnipFMC has been awarded a subsea installation contract by Chevron Australia for the Gorgon Stage Two development, located offshore Western Australia.
The contract covers the project management and engineering, transportation, installation and pre-commissioning of umbilicals and flying leads as well as manifolds, the company said July 26. The award also includes fabrication, transportation, installation and testing of rigid spools.
The Gorgon project is operated by Chevron Australia and is a joint venture of the Australian subsidiaries of Chevron (46.3%), ExxonMobil (25%), Shell (25%), Osaka Gas (1.25%), Tokyo Gas (1%) and Jera (0.417%). The phase two development aims to upgrade the project’s existing subsea facilities to ensure production is maintained for future gas supply. The planned future development phase involves new wells in the Gorgon and Jansz-lo fields and accompanying offshore production pipelines and subsea structures.
In April this year, Chevron and its joint venture participants decided to proceed with the development of the Western Australian Gorgon project, which will underpin long-term supply for the LNG export facility.
The 15.6mn mt/yr capacity Gorgon complex, which opened in phases with train 1 starting March 2016 and train 3 one year later, is the most expensive single LNG project ever developed, at US$54bn.
