TAP Pipe '81.8% Complete' : Video

Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), the developer of a gas pipeline from the Greek-Turkish border via Albania to southern Italy, has posted a video showing construction progress to date.  Its 'fly-over the TAP route' video was posted online two weeks ago but included with a seasonal email December 19 sent to the media and others.

It features shots taken this summer of work along the entire 878-km route, including Marta Pass in Albania the project's highest point at some 2,100 meters, but most interestingly the micro-tunnel site on the southeast Italian coast where the pipe will come ashore from Albania and a storage area nearby in Melendugno where 650 ancient olive trees transplanted from a construction site have been stored under canopies. Moving the olive trees was held up until late 2018.

Prime minister Giuseppe Conte gave the Italian government's definitive approval for TAP to proceed in Italy on October 26, ending a lengthy standoff with environmental and local objectors. TAP started construction offshore Albania also during October when the company reaffirmed its target of transporting Azeri gas (from Shah Deniz 2) to Europe in 2020. As at Dec.19, the company says that construction progress is 81.8%-complete.
