Taliban signs deal with Turkish firm for gas drilling in Afghanistan

Afghanistan’s Taliban government has signed an agreement with an unnamed Turkish company for the drilling of two gas wells in the Yatim Taq area of Jawzjan province, the country’s ministry of mines and petroleum announced on X, formerly known as Twitter, on July 6.

The ministry stated that the project will require an investment of $7.5mn. They also added that foreign companies are interested in investing over $1bn in this area.

The project is expected to produce 300,000 m3/day of gas, with an estimated revenue of $60,000/day. The gas produced will also be used in industrial applications, power generation, and compressed natural gas (CNG) production.

The ministry said that contracts for drilling other gas wells in the country will be signed soon.
