Survey starts at Ireland's Barryroe field
A well site survey has begun at the Barryroe oil and gas field off the south coast of Ireland, the project's operator Providence Resources said on October 26.
The Marine Institute’s Celtic Voyager vessel mobilised on October 24 to Barryroe, where it will undertake a seabed, shallow geophysical and environmental baseline survey at the K area. The survey is expected to take seven days to complete.

"The directors of Providence Resources believe that we have a compelling proposition with regards to the Barryroe prospect," company chairman James Menton said in a statement. "We continue to focus on moving ahead with this project in these challenging times of energy supply and security."
Providence and its project partner Lansdowne have hailed Barryroe as Ireland's largest oil discovery, and the field also contains commercial quantities of gas. The pair had hoped to farm out a 50% interest in the field to Norway's SpotOn Energy but that deal fell through in April.
The partners launched a strategic review at Barryroe in late September, in order to find options to strengthen the case for the field's development.
