Subsea 7 Scores Chevron Work off Angola

UK-based Subsea 7 has won a contract from a Chevron unit called Cabinda Gulf Oil Co to build and install a new gas platform offshore Angola, it said on January 22.

The platform is part of Chevron's delayed Sanha Lean Gas Connection (SLGC) project, originally meant to come on stream in 2017 but delayed because of challenging project economics. It will deliver gas from Block 0 via a 43-km pipeline to an onshore LNG facility operated by the US major.

Subsea 7 will undertake project management and engineering at its offices in Paris and Lisbon, and fabrication at Sonamet's yard in Lobito, Angolo, from 2021 to 2022. Offshore operations will take place in 2022-2023. The platform will weigh 4,200 metric tons, Chevron previously said, and will be positioned in waters 70 m deep.

Subsea 7 was awarded the work in a tender. The contract's value is "substantial", Subsea 7 said, putting it at somewhere between $150mn and $300mn.
