Strata-X to Explore for Unconventional Gas in Western Australia
Strata-X has announced that the Western Australian government has conditionally awarded the compnay 100% rights to explore nearly 1.4 million acres in the onshore Canning Basin in Western Australia.
The Canning Basin has recently been a global hotspot for shale oil and gas exploration with the entry of ConocoPhillips and Mitsubishi through farm-in agreements.
The company believes that the L 11-3 onshore Canning Basin block is prospective for both conventional and unconventional petroleum within the Carboniferous Laurel Formation, and prospective for unconventional petroleum in the deeper Devonian Goldwyer Formation.
The deeper Goldwyer Formation within the L11-3 block is also prospective for shale oil and gas. According to estimates Goldwyer Formation may hold approximately 229 TCF of technically recoverable resources within the basin.
