Standart: Bulgaria Benefits from both Nabucco and TAP
Bulgaria is equally interested in the implementation of the Nabucco and Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) projects it transpired after the yesterday’s meetings of Foreign minister Nikolay Mladenov in Baku, the first stop in his tour around the Southern Caucasus together with the representatives of Sweden and Poland. Mladenov and his Swedish colleague Carl Bildt along with the Chef de Cabinet of the Polish President Jacek Michalowski had talks with President Ilham Aliev and the foreign minister of Azerbaijan.
The agenda were the prospects of the Southern Energy Corridor that supplies natural gas from the new sources located in the Caucasus, Central Asia or the Middle East. Some time ago Azerbaijan declared that the implementation of the Trans Adriatic Pipeline was its priority. The line connects the gas fields in the Caspian Sea via Turkey and reaches the Bulgarian border. The Nabucco-West pipeline feeds with gas the Central Europe passing via Bulgaria and Romania while the TAP runs via Greece and then reaches Italy. Both projects will reap profit for Bulgaria: Nabucco-West is a direct gas transit line passing through Bulgaria whereas TAP is an interconnector that Bulgaria will build together with Turkey. The second pipe will ensure access to gas for Bulgaria, Mladenov commented. MORE
