Southern Pakistan Has 51 tcf of Shale Gas
Pakistan has 51 trillion cubic feet (TCF) of shale gas in southern Pakistan which is technically recoverable while huge potential exists in the other basins of the country.
A report in Business recorder says that due to full maturity of current basins and highly capital investment needed for offshore blocks, new fields in Pakistan will predominantly be smaller fields. Therefore, policy initiatives need to be taken to explore and develop shale gas resources. Currently no shale gas is being produced in Pakistan.
The government is in the process of preparing Shale Gas Framework providing lucrative incentives to E & P Companies to jump start exploration and enhance the gas production.
