Southern Gas Corridor Opens May 29
The first stage of the 2000-km South Gas Corridor (SGC), from Azerbaijan’s Caspian shores to Eskisheher in Turkey, will start up May 29 with a ceremony in Baku, a government source has told NGW.
The gas will reach Eskisheher in June 12, a week earlier than the last schedule, along with the inauguration of the SGC’s Turkish section, Trans Anatolian pipeline (Tanap), by the presidents of Azerbaijan and Turkey.

“The SGC opening ceremony will be attended by state and government delegations of those countries that will receive gas, as well as the heads of companies that are involved in this project,” the source said.
In all, the SGC, from Azerbaijan to Italy, is 3,500 km long and planned to start up in 2020. The first gas deliveries to Turkey next month will come from Shah Deniz 1 and the volume will rise gradually to 16.16bn m³/yr by 2020, of which Turkey will take 6bn m³ and the rest goes to the European Union.
