Southern Gas Corridor Meeting Next Month
The third meeting of the Consultative Council (CC) on the project of Southern Gas Corridor (SGC) will be held in Baku on February 23, 2017, according to Azerbaijan's energy ministry press service.
In preparation, the ministry said it had "specified the list of participants of the meeting and invited the energy ministers of the SGC participating countries (Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey, Italy, Greece, Albania and Bulgaria) and countries of the Balkan region.” Invitations had also been sent to European Commission vice-president for energy union Maros Sefcovic, plus heads of international financial institutions and representatives of interested countries.
The first such meeting was held in February 2015, and the second in February 2016 -- both also in Baku.
The Southern Gas Corridor is primarily designed to enable Azeri gas to flow to Europe, without having to transit Russia.
Earlier this week in Vienna, Gazprom said for the first time it may be interested in using the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline -- the westernmost part of the SGC -- as a method of delivering Russian gas to Italy.
