Politics.hu: South Stream highly important for strengthening Hungary energy security, says Rogán

The construction of the South Stream gas pipeline is highly important for strengthening the security of Hungary’s energy supplies, the head of parliament’s economic committee told MTI on Wednesday.

Hungary currently imports gas only through Ukraine and this poses a considerable risk, Antal Rogan, of ruling Fidesz, told MTI.

Constructing the South Stream pipeline is important not only for Hungary, but for Bulgaria, Austria, Italy and Slovenia as well, he said.

It would also be important to allow a broad circle of companies to compete for the construction of the pipeline’s Hungarian section, Rogan said, making reference to a proposal submitted by the economic committee.
