South Pars Phases 17,18 to Come Online by September

Phases 17 and 18 of Iran’s South Pars gas field will likely come online by September.

Managing Director of the National Iranian Drilling Company (NIDC) Hamidreza Golpayegani said that more than 95 percent of the drilling work of phases 17 and 18 has been completed and the projects will become operational by late September, Fars News Agency reported.

The two phases will produce 50 million cubic meters of natural gas on a daily basis.

The South Pars gas field covers an area of 9,700 square kilometers, 3,700 square kilometers of which are in Iran's territorial waters in the Persian Gulf. The remaining 6,000 square kilometers, i.e. the North Dome, are in Qatar's territorial waters.

The South Pars gas field holds 8 percent of total gas reserves of the world and half of the Iran's proven gas reserves.
