South Jersey Industries starts work on second RNG facility in New Jersey

Energy infrastructure company South Jersey Industries (SJI) and renewable natural gas (RNG) developer OPAL Fuels have commenced work on a new RNG facility at the Burlington County Resource Recovery Complex solid waste landfill in Florence Township, New Jersey, SJI announced on August 7.

This project marks the second collaboration between the two companies to develop, construct, own, and operate RNG facilities, following their first joint venture for an RNG facility in Egg Harbour Township, New Jersey.

The Burlington County project will capture methane produced from the decomposition of organic material at the landfill and convert it into RNG. The facility is designed to produce approximately 6.5mn gas gallons equivalent/year of RNG.

OPAL Fuels will distribute the RNG through its fuelling station network, providing a lower-emission and cost-effective fuel option for heavy-duty trucks.
