Snam Plans First Biomethane Unit
Italian gas grid operator Snam said it plans to build its first biomethane plant.
It said December 3 that it has paid €2mn ($2.3mn) to acquire Enersi Sicilia outright, a company that has approval to develop a unit to make biogas from urban solid waste at Caltanissetta, Sicily.
The planned biomethane plant would use 36,000 tons per year of urban waste; Snam said it would use the technical expertise of its subsidiary IES Biogas for the project.
Snam's statement did not provide details on the cost of development or of any grants expected. It is one of several 'Snam4Mobility' initiatives that the company has in place to reduce emissions from transport.
