Italian biomethane car begins 25,000-km trip to Japan and back
Italian gas grid operator Snam's hybrid natural gas and biomethane Toyota C-HR car embarked on June 10 on a 25,000-km "symbolic" journey from Italy to Japan and back again, to demonstrate the value of gas as a clean and low-cost vehicle fuel.
The vehicle, supplied with equipment by Landi Renzo and Piccini Impianti, will be fuelled entirely with biomethane from agricultural waste during the Italian leg of the trip, Snam said.

"This vehicle offers a trivalent solution, capable of combining the advantages of electricity with those guaranteed by natural gas and biomethane," Snam's chief mobility officer, Alessio Torelli, commented. "Already today, more than 25% of the gas used for transport in Italy is of organic origin and we believe that this solution has great potential for decarbonising mobility of people and goods, from light vehicles to heavy vehicles."
Snam said the long test drive would "confirm the sustainability and economy of the vehicle, also certifying the reliability of entirely Italian green technologies."
