Sinopec to Set Up 1,000 Hydrogen Stations
Chinese state-run Sinopec will establish 1,000 hydrogen refuelling stations during the next five years, its president Ma Yongsheng said during the Two Sessions recently held in Beijing, the company said on March 11.
"During the '14th Five-Year Plan' period [2021-2025], Sinopec will layout 1,000 hydrogen refuelling stations and step up to become a service provider of 'oil, gas, hydrogen, electricity and non-oil business' through transformation," said Ma. "In the future, people will not only pump gasoline and diesel in Sinopec's gas stations but also use hydrogen refuelling and electricity among other businesses."

As part of China's 14th Five-Year Plan, Sinopec said it has included "clean" in the company vision for the first time. The company will be promoting clean energy by accelerating the transformation of hydrogen sources from grey hydrogen to blue and green hydrogen, it added.
Sinopec has set up hydrogen refuelling stations in Guangdong, Shanghai, Zhejiang, and Guangxi, among others, and 10 oil-hydrogen mixing stations are now in operation. It currently produces 3.5mn metric tons/year of hydrogen.
Citing data from the China Hydrogen Energy Alliance, Ma said that by 2050, China's hydrogen demand will be close to 60mn mt/yr, which would help the country to cut 700mn mt from its carbon dioxide emissions.
