Sinopec Southwest to Focus on Shale Gas

Sinopec Southwest Oil & Gas Company, the Sinopec subsidiary based in Chengdu and operating in southwest China, produced 1.5bn m3 of natural gas during 1Q 2018, Sinopec said April 4 without providing a year on year comparison. The company sold 1.4bn m3 during the quarter.

Sinopec added that Southwest Oil & Gas Company is actively working on expanding its natural gas output to meet the growing demand for the commodity in China. Ensuring a rapid increase in shale gas output also remains an important objective, it said.

Sinopec Southwest Oil & Gas Company operates in Sichuan, Chongqing, Yunnan, Guizhou and Guangxi and produced a record 6.07bn m3 of natural gas in 2017, an increase of 560mn m3 (or 10%) over 2016.

Chinese state-owned Sinopec’s overall natural gas output reached a record 25.7bn m3 last year, up 19% year on year. Its shale gas output in 2017 was 6bn m3, up 20% year on year.
