Singapore LNG Terminal Installs Solar Power
Singapore LNG Corp (SLNG) has hired France's Total to finance, build and operate a 600-kilowatt peak solar power system, to be installed on the rooftops of several buildings at its import terminal, SLNG said on September 16.
The power system is due to be completed in the fourth quarter. Its use will result in a cut in CO2 emissions of 300 metric tons annually, SLNG said.
"SLNG is committed to doing its part to help fight climate change and promote environmental sustainability; and the use of solar energy at our terminal is just a modest first step," the Singaporean firm's CEO Tan Soo Koong said. "We are also actively exploring ways to catalyse the use of LNG and other green energy alternatives."
SLNG is also looking to work with partners to develop infrastructure for the use of LNG as a marine fuel, and develop technologies to import, transport and store hydrogen. Its terminal on Jurong Island is capable of importing 6mn mt/yr of LNG.
