Siemens to develop hydrogen projects in Egypt
German engineering group Siemens announced on August 25 it had agreed to develop hydrogen projects with export potential in Egypt, under a memorandum of understanding signed with state-owned Egyptian Electricity Holding (EEHC)
Despite Egypt's considerable gas reserves that could serve as feedstock for producing blue hydrogen, the focus of Siemens' partnership with EEHC is green hydrogen derived from water using renewable energy-powered electrolysis. The pair "will jointly promote investment, technology transfer, and implementation of projects," Siemens said, potentially advancing a 100-200-MW pilot electrolyser project.

"The development of a homegrown hydrogen ecosystem and value chain in Egypt has the potential to deliver a more sustainable and prosperous future for Egyptians," Christian Bruch, CEO of Siemens Energy, commented in a statement.
"This agreement will support EEHC and the Egyptian state in opportunities to localise and maximise the use of the green hydrogen industry," Egyptian electricity minister Mohammed Shaker added.
Earlier this year Egyptian companies Egyptian Electricity Holding Company and the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company signed an agreement with Italy's Eni on examining the feasibility of producing both green and blue hydrogen in the North African state.
