Siemens tapped for LNG-to-power project in Brazil
German company Siemens Energy said November 23 it received an order to build a power plant in Brazil that will run on LNG.
The company said it would build a 1.7 GW combined cycle power plant at the Port of Acu in the state of Rio de Janeiro for Brazilian energy company Gas Natural Acu (GNA). It will complement a smaller facility that was commissioned earlier this year.

“With a combined capacity of 3 GW the two power plants will be able to provide enough electricity for the consumption of around 14mn households,” Siemens stated. It said this will be the most efficient thermal power facility in the region.
“This project is strategic, not only for its grandeur, but also for its geographical location, close to the two main gas pipelines systems in Brazil, in the northeast and southeast of the country,” added Jochen Eickholt, an executive board member of Siemens Energy AG.
Siemens counts Andrade Gutierrez, the second largest construction company in Brazil, as a consortium partner in the project.
Siemens put the total value of the turnkey project at around $1.1bn.
