Shell Opens Fifth LNG Filling Station in Germany

Shell has opened its fifth LNG filling station in Germany in Kirchheim unter Teck, it announced on August 31.

The station is the first of its kind in Baden-Wurttemberg state and is located on a major long-distance route from Munich via Stuttgart and Karlsruhe to France. It will be capable of refuelling up to 150 trucks/day.

Shell aims to expand its LNG filling network in Germany to 40 stations by the end of 2022, while also establishing a supply chain for bio-LNG, a renewable and very low carbon gas derived from anaerobic digesters. It plans to build a 100,000-mt bio-LNG liquefaction plant at its refinery in Rhineland.

The Anglo-Dutch major intends to open additional stations in Weinsberg, Kassel and Stuhr near Bremen this autumn. And more will begin operations in winter.
