Shell Drills Duster Near Ormen Lange
Shell, as operator of PL 832 offshore Norway, has completed a well in the southern part of the Norwegian Sea; the well was dry.
Norway's upstream regulator NPD said August 8 that the unsuccessful wildcat well 6304/3-1 was drilled 35 km northwest of the major Ormen Lange gas field; it encountered a 9-meter thick reservoir rocks with poor reservoir quality and was not formation-tested.
It was the first exploration well on PL 832, which was awarded in the APA 2015 licensing round. Shell is the licence's operator; its partners are Petoro, Spirit Energy and DEA.
Ormen Lange, also Shell-operated, is among the largest producing gas fields on the Norwegian continental shelf, and is the largest field off Norway supplying predominantly into the UK market.
The
Scarabeo 8 drilling facility, which drilled well 6304/3-1, will now move on to PL 225B where it will drill a wildcat well for Total.
