NRCU: Shale gas in Ukraine to cost about $200 - Azarov
The price of shale gas produced in Ukraine can amount to about $200 per 1,000 cubic meters, Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said in an interview with the Rossiya 24 television channel on Monday.
"It's difficult now to say what the final figures will be like. But we focus on the fact that it could be prime cost, say, about $140-160 per 1,000 cubic meters on the well itself and about $200 in retail. Of course, these are competitive figures for us. These are figures that enable our industry to work," he said. According to Azarov, the scale of shale gas reserves in Ukraine, even according to the most preliminary estimates, are about 4.5 trillion cubic meters. "They will be enough for 100-150 years. It's not even necessary to say that it is a powerful impetus to the development of the country - this is gas in the center of Europe," he said. Meanwhile, the Ukrainian prime minister said that if Russia's Gazprom did not "strangle" Ukraine for three years with inflated prices for its gas, Ukraine would possibly not be engaged in shale gas.
