Service Companies Get Contracts in Norway, Malaysia

GE Oil & Gas signed a framework agreement with Statoil Petroleum AS to provide subsea operations services for the company’s operated fields Tordis, Vigdis, Snorre and Troll, located north west off the coast of Stavanger.

“This is an important contract of significant value to us, and one which will allow continued investment by GE Oil & Gas at our state-of-the-art services facility in Dusavik outside of Stavanger. It represents growth in the region and secures the sustainability of our Subsea Services business in Norway” Tom Huuse, Services Leader for Nordic Region at GE Oil & Gas, said in a note on Tuesday.

GE Oil & Gas will run the services from their Dusavik site, providing subsea operations services, including offshore installation and intervention, equipment repair and maintenance, studies, upgrades and modifications.

Also on Tuesday, Technip has been awarded an engineering, procurement, installation and commissioning contract by Petronas for D18 Project offshore Sarawak, Malaysia, at a water depth of 36 meters.

“This is the first work order awarded under the 5-year Framework Agreement signed with Petronas” KK Lim, President of Technip in Asia Pacific, commented in a note.

Other service companies have been suffering over the last weeks and months. Several players announced workforce layoffs.

Against these changes, rumours indicate that there could be a renewed interest in operations offshore UK

Recently, the country released some statistics, indicating that gross gas production increased last year from 38,089 million cubic meters to 38,516 million cubic meters, after 14 consecutive years of decrease. In 2000, UK gross gas production registered its all-time high at 114,663 million cubic meters.
