SDX Energy spuds SD-12 East appraisal well
SDX Energy, the London-listed explorer active in North Africa and the Middle East, has sunk its latest appraisal well in its onshore South Disouq campaign in northeastern Egypt, with the launch of SD-12 East in the Ibn Yunus North development lease, the company said on April 21.
SD-12 East is being drilled to the east of the SD-12X find made by SDX Energy on March 4. It is expected to confirm the presence of hydrocarbons linked to the Warda prospect, a 55-ft net pay gas sands structure identified with the previous well. Current estimates place Warda's gross unrisked P50 reserves at 11bn ft3.

The new appraisal will also target hydrocarbons in primary Ibn Yunus and Sobhi basal sand reservoirs, reaching a similar measured depth to Warda of around 6,973 ft. The target has already been identified and is thought to carry an 80% chance of success, with unrisked P50 reserves of 7bn ft3.
South Disouq already flows gas from three wells: SD-1X, SD-3X and SD-4X. Warda is one 10 further prospects that offer potential upside, with 243bn ft3 in unrisked mean recoverable resources.
SDX says the new well could be tied in to its existing central processing facility via the flow line at the SD-12X hole, ready for launch by mid-July 2022. The appraisal is the second string of a three-well campaign in SDX's South Disouq area this year. Work on a final well at the Mohsen concession, MA-1X, will get underway in "mid-to-late" May, targeting 21bn ft3 in gross unrisked gas reserves.
"I am pleased to announce the spudding of SD-12 East, the second well in the South Disouq drilling campaign," said Mark Reid, CEO of SDX. "This campaign is further exploring the potential in the South Disouq area and, with the recent success of the SD-5X discovery well, it has already enabled us to plan for an increase in our production guidance in the coming months.
"So far in 2022, SDX has had three discoveries from three wells drilled and I look forward to updating the market further as our very busy drilling campaign progresses throughout the year."
