Preparations start for Ruvuma seismic survey

London-listed Aminex and Scirocco Energy said in filings on December 2 that preparations were underway for a 338-km2 seismic survey at the  Ruvuma production-sharing agreement (PSA) area in Tanzania.

Aminex and Scirocco are both junior partners at Ruvuma PSA, which is operated by Oman's ARA Petroleum with a 50% interest. The site contains the 2010 Ntorya gas discovery, which is undergoing appraisal.

ARA awarded a contract in late September for the work to Africa Geophysical Services. The contractor began preparations on November 15 and has now established GPS control points and is calibrating equipment for ground staking. Line clearing and mobilisation of the camp should begin next week, Aminex and Scirocco said.

The actual seismic surveying work should start on December 15 and will continue as long as weather conditions permit. It will recommence when the rains have abated towards the end of the first quarter of 2022.

Aminex and Scirocco said the acquisition of 3D seismic data would mark a significant step forward for the project. Both the survey and the planned Chikumbi-1 well at the Ruvuma PSA will be fully funded by ARA under the terms of its farm-in at the project last year. The well is expected to be spudded in the third quarter of 2022.
