Saudi Arabia makes five gas discoveries
Saudi state-owned energy company Saudi Aramco has made a number of natural gas discoveries across the country, state news agency Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on February 27.
The company has discovered a total of five natural gas fields in the central region of the country, in the empty quarter desert, near its northern border and in the eastern region, energy minister Abdulaziz bin Salman said.

The five fields are Shadoon, in the central region, producing 27mn ft3/day with 3,300 barrels of condensate; Shehab, in the empty quarter, with the output of 31mn ft3/d; Shorfa, also in the empty quarter, with an output of 16.9mn ft3/d; Umm Khansir, with 2mn ft3/d of unconventional natural gas and Samna, with three separate wells together producing 26.7mn ft3/d of unconventional natural gas, SPA reported.
Saudi Arabia is looking to develop its natural gas resources. Saudi Aramco in November last year started the development of the country’s largest non-associated gas field, Jafurah.
