SHI Gets Approval for Liquefaction Cycle Tech

South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) has obtained detailed design approval from classification society American Bureau of Shipping for its LNG liquefaction cycle technology, it said on September 1 in a statement.

SHI said its own liquefaction technology will help reduce costs as it can avoid payment of technology fees and dependence on overseas companies that possess original technology. Natural gas liquefaction cycle is a core technology to liquefy natural gas at ordinary temperature by freezing it at under 160 degrees below zero with refrigerant.

“With this certification, Samsung Heavy Industries' technical confidence in the LNG field has been enhanced, and by optimising design and purchase costs, the competitiveness of ordering LNG value chain products has been further strengthened,” the company said.
