Saga LNG Loads First LNG Cargo in Singapore
Singapore-based Saga LNG Shipping has successfully loaded its first full cargo on the 45,000-m3 Saga Dawn on April 22 at Singapore LNG, it said on April 23. The vessel is the world’s first LNG carrier featuring an IMO type A LNG containment system, based on LNT Marine’s patented LNT A-Box design.
“Today we celebrate yet another major milestone for our company, our vessel, and LNT Marine’s LNT A- Box technology. As Saga Dawn departs on her maiden voyage, we would like to take a moment to thank Singapore LNG, our business partners, and all the parties involved for their hard work and excellent support in making this first loading a success,” David Wu, CEO Saga LNG Shipping, said.
The ABS-classed vessel was built at China Merchants Heavy Industry’s Jiangsu yard and features Wartsila dual-fuel main and auxiliary engines.
Saga LNG Shipping said it is in the final stages of development for an 80,000-m3 LNGC design with a 9-metre fully laden draft, aimed at regional imports into Chinese terminals. Saga has further developed and obtained approvals in principle for its shallow draft 28,500-m3 Wuhan Max and 12,000-m3 Yichang Max designs aimed at opening up trade along China’s Yangtze River.
LNT Marine’s proprietary containment system features an IMO independent tank type A as the primary barrier, a conventional cargo tank support system and liquid-tight thermal insulation attached to the hull compartment which acts as a full secondary barrier.
