Russian Piped Gas to Lithuania, Kaliningrad Suspended

Russian gas supplies to Lithuania and Russia’s Kaliningrad exclave have been disrupted following the start of pipeline repairs in Belarus.

Gas shipments via the 2.5bn m³/yr Minsk-Vilnius-Kaunas-Kaliningrad gas pipeline were suspended on July 8 so that three weeks of maintenance can take place, according to Russia’s Gazprom Transgaz Belarus, which operates the pipeline’s Belarusian section.

Until supplies resume on July 28, Lithuania will rely on imports from the 4bn m³/yr Klaipeda LNG terminal, as well as Russian volumes arriving from Latvia, its national gas transport operator Amber Grid has said. Kaliningrad is likely to resort to gas in underground storage and increased supplies from its own 2,7bn m³/yr LNG regasification facility to cover its needs.
