Russia once again became the world's largest producer of gas in 2010, the tenth Eni World Oil and Gas review has found. Russia was briefly overtaken in gas production levels in 2009 by the United States of America, but increased its production last year to put it once again on top of the world rankings.

Russia Top Gas Producer in 2010

Russia once again became the world's largest producer of gas in 2010.

Russia was briefly overtaken in gas production levels in 2009 by the United States of America, but increased its production last year to put it once again on top of the world rankings according to the tenth Eni World Oil and Gas review

The Eni review found that Russian output of gas grew to 624.61 billion cubic metres in 2010, surpassing the historical peak levels of the United States of 600.15 billion cubic metres in 2009. The review also put the level of gas reserves in Russia and Central Asia at 59,516 at billion cubic metres as of the 1st of January, 2011. 

Gas reserves for Europe fell from 6,788 billion cubic metres in 2010 to 6,351 billion cubic metres in 2011.

The review also found that overall gas consumption levels grew worldwide, by 7.5 percent.
