Russia courts Romania for South Stream
A Russian delegation met with Romanian officials Friday to discuss potential joint projects in the energy sector.
Talks centered on the setting up of underground gas storage facilities in Romania.
"In addition, the Romanian party confirmed its interest to participate in the South Stream project," Gazprom said in a statement.
Transgaz, Romania's state-owned gas pipeline company, is a partner in the Nabucco pipeline consortium. Nabucco is to meet approximately 15 percent of Romania's current national gas need.
In the past, Romanian officials have said that Nabucco natural gas pipeline should be the top priority for the European push for energy security.
